Game On: Rethinking Education and Gender Representation in Gaming

Recently, I had the opportunity to participate in an enlightening panel discussion at the Madison Development conference, focusing on the intersection of education and gaming. This panel delved into what it means to be “educated” in games addressing how games can serve as educational tools while also highlighting the importance of diversity in gaming. The limited and often stereotypical representation of female characters shows the need for more inclusive and empowering portrayals. It’s crucial to include strong, independent female characters with diverse traits and roles; the gaming industry can challenge traditional gender norms and enhance the educational value of games.
