On the Wednesday before Father’s Day, we gathered at the State Capitol—dads, grandparents, parents, and providers—united in calling for a $480M investment in Wisconsin’s child care system. As someone deeply committed to the well-being of Wisconsin families, I’ve seen how rising child care costs threaten parents’ stability every day. Families are paying nearly $36,000 a year for infant or toddler care, more than in-state tuition at UW-Madison. Through my work with Kids Forward, I helped launch the Dads Care for Child Care initiative to amplify dads’ voices in advocating for affordable, accessible child care. Without bold action, families and businesses alike will continue to feel the strain. Child care isn’t just a family issue, it’s a community responsibility, and it’s time we act like it.
